Hi Everyone!

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the amazing team at the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism in the role of Director of Development.  To this point, I have spent my entire career working to give children and families a level playing field, helping to combat circumstances that are out of their control and to eliminate barriers – and I look forward to continuing to do just that.  There is always an opportunity to chase science.  But what draws me most to the mission of the Flutie Foundation is the prospect of directly helping individuals and families that are affected by autism – one person at a time.  And I consider it a privilege to join this Foundation and work with our great supporters to continue helping those with autism live full lives.

In my first few weeks at the Foundation, I have had the opportunity to get to know my new colleagues, meet with a handful of our supporters, and even visit one of the programs the Foundation funds through AccesSportAmerica.  Seeing so many of the participants excelling as part of a water sports program – canoeing and wind surfing – was incredibly inspiring and helped to reinforce everything we can accomplish through the Foundation’s various initiatives.  The impact is so tangible.

As I continue to settle into my role at the Foundation – most of all – I look forward to connecting with and hearing from all of you.  I want to hear your stories and ideas.  I want to learn how you became involved with the Flutie Foundation and any thoughts you have for our future.  As we go forward, we will look to continue to connect with strategic partners – communities, organizations, businesses – that want to be agents of change.  And together, I know we are going to continue to expand upon the vision that Doug and Laurie Flutie dreamed for this organization at its inception 20 years ago.

I hope to see a lot of you at one or both of our upcoming events – our Annual Golf Classic on September 17th at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton and our Annual Flutie 5K on September 30th at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick.

With gratitude,

Erin Harper
